Roe
A Family Care Awareness app
Deliverable:
Long-term Care Planning
Time:
August 24-25th
Role:
UX Designer
Tool:
Figma
Concept:
This project was an idea I thought of after recent events of seeing members of my family stressed due to the weight a loved one in an assisted living facility. One of the main aspects of their stress derived from the obstacle of communicating information between each of the 7 siblings, many things being lost within messaging. I wondered if I could think of an idea where information was still conveyed but in a more organized format, and that’s how Roe was developed.
Problem:
Family members caring for a loved one in long-term care struggling to keep information organized & conveyed to one another.
Goals:
Create a messaging platform that allows additional information organization.
A place where all members can contribute.
A place to track the health of a loved one in long-term care.
Main Features:
Calendar
A place to keep track of important meetings & dates. Members contributing to items on the schedule are shown in the bottom right of tasks.
Chat
A separate place to share information with members relating to their loved one. An additional feature here is the ability to send an alert to all members with any emergency updates.
Medical
A timeline of updates relating to the patients care.
A Quick Brainstorm:
Ideation
I wanted to begin ideating with the loved one’s profile as a base of the additional features that would be added.
I knew I wanted the app simple & condensed so I played around with a few ideas to try & find the best middle ground.

Reflection:
During my ideation phase, I sat down with my mom for a while as she shared all the ups & downs that her and her siblings had when caring for my grandma. Understanding what they wished they had during that difficult time was really important to me so I could develop something that really does relieve some sort of stress out of a family’s life. Originally, since this was based off of my grandma’s care, I thought it was going to be geared towards families taking care of elderly loved ones'. Although I quickly realized there are so many families caring for those of all ages with different types of long-term care. So, I really wanted to create something that could be used for all types of long-term care. It was challenging working within the 48-hour time constraint but also a bit motivating knowing I had to get this idea out and done by the next day. Part of me hopes to come back to this project in the future to develop it further! For example, putting a sorting feature on the main page of ‘Medical’ instead of within a drop-down menu, or create some sort of folders for the ‘visit’ gallery page.
